New mouthpieces

for C Melody saxophones.
Mouthpieces for C mels are available in quality Hard Rubber or metal and have a round chamber to produce a smooth even sound. The New WIDEbody Metalpro has a square ramp baffle for greater reed response with a huge chamber for a FAT sound.

The Classic mpcs come in # 4, #5 or # 6 tip sizes being 1.4 mm, 2mm (0.078in similar to the Selmer E) and 2.4 mm respectively.

The Classic # 5 mouthpiece is the result of a customer survey, retaining the traditional C mel mpc look and round chamber but increasing the tip opening to a more useful width.
The LR4 hard rubber has the same round chamber with a smaller tip opening, more suited to beginners or classical music players but also features a small rollover baffle to increase reed response.
C Metalpro mpcs are currently available with # 5, # 6 and # 7 tips. All come with ligature and matching cap in either silver or Gold plate, and now the new gold lacquer to match gold saxes.

New WIDE BODY C Metalpro

The new WIDE  BODY mpc has a super wide chamber for a fat sound with a square baffle for tone colour, giving the best of both worlds and providing a real Tenor sound for C mels

This is the solution for tenor players who are frustrated by trying to get their Bb Tenor mpc to stay on their C mel.

Comes complete with cap and lig in silver plate.

Customer Feedback 2012

Hi Steve,
The mouthpiece arrived in Graz,
it sounds great in combination with the new neck on my Conn.
(Widebody Metalpro 6)
Thank you very much,
With best regards
Armin

Hi Steve,

Everything went well. Your package was perfect and the invoice was mounted correct. The fault was made by customs.

I tried the mpc and its great.

Tanks for your service and patience.

Bertold

You asked me to let you know about the Alto mouthpiece, so I thought I'd give you a report. I have been playing with a sort of Paul Desmond sound, but I recently got asked to play a concert doing some David Sanborn and Grover Washington stuff, so I thought I'd better upgrade. I had already used your metal Soprano mouthpieces, one was a 7 with the full baffle, the other was a 6 without the baffle (an OC I think), which I got because I found the baffle was too much for soprano, and although I regularly use a 7 mouthpiece, I wanted to drop down to a softer setup. So I ordered a 6 for alto. It was perfect, I use #2 reeds (I clip them after a few days), and I get a great modern sound. I can easily get the top notes, more than an octave above the top D, bottom notes easy, tuning good throughout the range. It's a very good mouthpiece.

I'm very happy with it, so I ordered one for my tenor. I currently use a 7 Bari mouthpiece, which I had to extend because it was too sharp. I added a copper tube so it could extend more from the cork.  But I want to play more quietly in the big band stuff, so I think the 6 will be better, and I hope the tuning is also. It has been on the soprano and alto mouthpieces.

I think the 6 is a good mid-range opening, it roughly matches the 7 Rico and Bari I have been using, slightly less.

Thanks,

Allan

CUSTOMER FEEDBACK   2011

The mouthpiece came in excellent condition and sounds great on my C melody saxophone "Tenor" in 1920.

Hello Jenny,The C-soprano Case arrived intact.

It is a great case! (hardshell Bb soprano case for C soprano)

Thanks

I have to say that I absolutely love the C soprano mouthpieces I've purchased from Aquilasax in the last few months. They are wonderful and play so well in tune on my old Buescher C soprano from the 1920s!

David

The neck arrived safely this morning...beautifully packed.
As expected, with the pip nearer the mouthpiece, it is far better in the palm key range than the Martin's own neck; & I just love the underslung rocker.
For future reference it may be worth mentioning that it is not nearly as "ballsy" as the Martin neck because it has a  considerably smaller diameter at the mouthpiece end & is generally smaller in diameter along the whole length.
Had to be tried however.
Many thanks,   Lewis.

I have received  the package! The contents are in perfect shape. Great Case! I’m doing a tour, presenting the music of Bix Beiberbecke and Red Nichols, by the end of October. So for this tour, I’ll use one of my Holton C melodies, exactly the same instrument that Frank Trumbauer (and Rudy Wiedoeft) played. The Holton fits the case most perfectly.

Thanks for the rapid delivery!Greetings, Robert   FR
The C Melody reeds arrived today – just one week to UK from China!  Impressive.I’ve just spent an hour giving one of them a run through on my 1924 Conn with its original mouthpiece.  What a difference the proper reed makes.  I’ve been using tenor reeds and the tone now is so much better (rounder, richer, fuller) and the pitching much easier. So, glad that I bought 2 boxes.  Best few quid I’ve spent in a long time. All the best.Chris.

Hi Jenny,

The case is arrived yesterday without problem and fit well to the old conn.

Thanks !

Manuel  FR Amazing mouthpiece!!!!!!!!!!Hernan.  AR Hi, Jenny,

Thanks for the note. I'm looking forward to this; I was very pleased with the hard rubber mouthpiece I bought from Aquilasax a few months ago for my C soprano and am hoping the metal mouthpiece will perform just as well.

Best,

David Hello Steve,

no problem. The neck and the mouthpiece arrived the 8th of June! I am very happy because of I have an old Buescher C-melody sax from about 1918 to 1920 but the neck was not an original one. Thank you for your information sheet.

I think it is not necessary to improve your service. All is very good! SincerelyPeter from GermanyHello -

Recently, I purchased an Aquilasax Fabcase through eBay for a 1915 Conn C Melody Saxophone I've been reconditioning.  I just finished overhauling the horn, and thought I'd send you a picture of it in it's new home (your Fabcase).  I'm very pleased with the case, as I know it will provide our C Melody with years of good protection.  The top of the body doesn't quite reach the right end of the case, but the bell and Eb guard especially fit snugly into the case, so the horn doesn't move around at all.  If need be, I'll add a small wedge of wood at the top of the horn to insure it doesn't move.  Anyway, thanks for the great case.  Take care - Dave G'day Aquila Sax LtdG'day SteveAs if on queue the order arrived on Friday 27 MAY.It had a label on it "opened by Australian Customs" - so that would explain the delay. It had been dispatched from China in a timely manner. Thanks again.Be wellRicard s. I've just received MP without any damage. Thanks for smooth business. I hope to deal again if any chance. Best Regards, Toshiya M  JP
Steve – We received the fabric C Melody Sax case and reeds today. Thanks for sending them quickly (well, for coming half way across the world and through China). The case fits our 1915 Conn C Melody quite well. I'm overhauling the horn right now, so I need to finish polishing it and install all new pads, corks and felts. If I think of it, I'll send you a picture of the horn in the case after I'm through overhauling it.
 Much obliged – Dave
Hi Jenny,

Everything arrived yesterday, in fine shape. Thanks for the great service and really helpful items. (Widebody Metalpro)

Hi Jenny and Steve, Thanks a lot for the fast shipping of the c-case and c-reeds. Case is fits very well with Conn and new reeds sound are so smooth and rich. Thanks.. Best Regards from Finland- Ismo
Hi Jenny,

The reeds arrived this past Saturday but it took until today for me to get them from the post office, since I was not in the house when the mailman arrived Saturday.

All things consider, shipping distances and the chaos at my local USPS, I found this to be a very satisfactory transaction and am pleased to have some of your reeds to use on my old Conn C Melody.

Dear Steve,

the case (FAB) was delivered today. I am very happy! I am astonished how simple the process was and that the case was delivered within a few days. The quality of the case is very good and I can use the case for an old C-melody saxophone from Buescher (1918/19). Thank you!

Sincerely

Peter

Hi.

Dear Steve
I bought a couple of your C Mel mouthpieces,

old Buescher. They produce a great, rich tone,

Hi Steve,

thanks a lot for the very fast shipping of the
 c-mel-case!

As you wrote it fits very well with my Conn NW -
I´m very pleased and only can recommend it further.
Great to see such a dedication for the c-melody saxophone by you
and your company.

Best wishes from Germany

New neck arrived on Sat - super quick service,
great.
(straight neck for Martin C mel. NOT designed
for Martins. this was an experiment)
basically a piece of 10 thou brass engineering
shim cut & formed to make
a sleeve, a once over with a fine emery cloth
and slips together as if it grew there, minor tweak
on the octave vent lever to open on the button and
plays lovely. Glad I went for the Holton neck as worked
out perfect for the 10 thou shim, the Conn would need to
be thicker and may not be a stock size. Such a nice neck, I might buy one for the Conn in a while - Ta
Simon

G'Day Steve,

A short note to let you know the C mel sax case arrived safely - several
days ago.
I thought you would appreciate a bit of info about the fit of the Buescher in the case.  It is good but was not a perfect fit.

As you would know, the Buescher True Tone has that extra key (and key guard) low down on the left side.  I  worked on the foam to create a hollow
to allow that key guard to embed.  There was no hollow for it and the weight of the lower part of the sax sat on the key guard, also preventing the sax from seating low in the case.

A second minor issue which I  also overcame easily by working the foam, is that there was no recess for the  neck screw (screwed from the left side).
The weight of the upper part of the sax sat on the neck screw & prevented the upper part of the sax from seating flat in the case.

Both issues were easily overcome.  The sax is otherwise a nice tight fit.  There is no weight placed on rods or keys that could bend them.
There is no movement of the sax within the case.

If I was asked, I would have no hesitation in recommending the case for
the Buescher C melody True Tone, as long as the purchaser knew he/she
would need to make some very easy & minor adjustments.  The case
itself is good quality and well priced and the minor issues are very easily overcome.

Regards

Deane P

The mouthpiece is well done, it provides a sound round, soft and slightly brighty.
My New Wonder Conn of 1920 is delighted!
thank you very much for your attention

Wilfrid Fr.

I just tried this c/B flat sop mpc on my R & C B flat Saxello, and really
enjoyed the clear, centered tone and ease of playing from top to bottom.
I hope it is as in tune on the C sop.
Joe

Steve,
Just wanted to let you know that I received the reeds a
few days ago.  They're a big improvement over the reed
of indeterminate origin and age that was with the horn
when I found it.
Thanks,
B L. Stuart

Super new mouthpiece arrived yesterday, lovely tone and super quick
delivery. Excellent service as ever.
Many thanks
Simon

G'day Steve

I got your aquilasax c-melody mouthpiece today.

Interestingly my 1914 Conn straight neck C-melody is stamped with H on the back
which must mean high pitch as it plays C at 456Hz (ie C# at modern concert pitch)
 with
the tuning mechanism in mid position.
However with your mouthpiece and reeds, and the tuner extended to fully out, you get
a nice fat middle C at 440Hz.  Also it turns this tame mild mannered sax into a monster
with full throaty tone throughout the range.  The thin upper register I got with the selmer
alto mouthpiece has disappeared.  So has the loss of low notes that were a problem
with the Selmer tenor mouthpiece. Its bloody great.

Thank you.

Andy

The Aquilla Flute is both highly playable and professional in quality. The Flutes
tone is excellent and plays smoothly allowing for consistant and defined notes even
when playing in higher octaves.  Compared with the Yamaha Flute the Aquilla Flute
is lighter in weight allowing the musican to play comfortably for any amount of time,
which makes The Aquilla Flute is a great choice for any player whether
novice or experienced.

Hayley. UK.

Your reeds make a big difference. It creates a much better balance wthin the instrument.
They make a Cmelody sound like a Cmelody!

I'll be back!

Greetings,

Robert

Hello Steve,

I've had the new mpcs for three weeks and time for a comment!

The new wide-bodied C does exactly what I was looking for

on the Buescher. Fatter and warmer sound than the Metalpro

with better intonation as well (on the Buescher.)

It works very well on the straight -neck Conn but my personal preference

for my sound conception on the Conn is still the older model!.

However, for the player seeking a more tenor-like sound, without the pitch

problems associated with using some tenor mpcs, the new mpc is a

great alternative. It projects well and has a consistent response over the range.

I did note that when using tenor reeds the arc of the mouthpiece is more r
ounded
than the reed tip and can cause some response problems. A quick trim
with
my French-style trimmer overcomes this. C mel reeds fit perfectly!

Overall, a great addition to your C mel range of products. The two metal mpcs

are different in overall sound and offer a real choice to the player.

The baritone mpc is a fine addition to my armoury.

I use my Mark 6 in a variey of settings. From high-level Wind Orchestra to

combo to big band. I use a different mouthpece for each situation!

The barimax has a "rounder" sound than many other metal mpcs and a good,
even
response over the range - and beyond.

Plenty of bite and punch down the bottom end and a good natural volume
which can be
easily controlled for a full dynamic range.
The mpc articulates cleanly and has the quick
response
needed of a good baritone mpc.
I won't take it to Wind Orchestra, the Selmer sound is needed to blend with bassoons and bass clarinet,
but I will use it for combos and especially big band where the
roundness and presence blends really well
with the tenors and trombones- and can honk if needed!

With best wishes,

Ross.

Hi Steve,

I'm a very happy customer who owns now three fantastic aquilasax
mouthpieces (Metalpro #5 soprano, hard rubber LR #4 C melody and a
BariMax #6). I can say they enhance the sax playing in all scopes, they
are free blowing, they have a very good intonation, they have a full
rich sound, ....
I own a lot of mouthpieces ( > 30 (bari, soprano, tenor, alto), and they
are all from the well known companies (Berg Larsen, Otto Link, Vandoren,
Yanagisawa, Lawton, Jody Jazz, Selmer, ....), so I can compare it
directly.
So many thanks for these outstanding, high quality mouthpieces!!!!

I recommend your mouthpieces to all my friends, one of them has now a
(metalpro #5 c soprano and a metalpro tenor #5) and another wants the
same c-melody sax mouthpiece which I own (I will order this with my alto
metalpro).
I play the lead alto in a big band and think it could be a good idea to
switch now to a aquilasax Metalpro. I'm playing a Meyer "G" 6.

Regards
Thomas

PS: My aquilasax soprano sax plays as well very good, it is a great sax!!!

Hi Steve,
I just received the neck and mpc. and immediately tried them and lo and behold
they worked.
The neck fits perfectly,(a little snug, but that's good).
The mpc. plays real good especially in the low register, it plays great.
Thank you very much for the stuff.
            Sincerely,
                Marty G.

Steve

I have received the mouthpiece for my C melody sax and just love it!!

It plays really great and will give me the sound I have been looking for.

Bill S.

Hi Steve,

The mouthpiece arrived today, in proper order. I really like the silver
finish, looks beautiful. It fits my Conn C snugly, too. No need to shave of
cork (I was using the original mpc till now, not a tenor one).

I haven't played long today, but I like what I hear!

Best regards,

Martijn

Hi Steve

New neck arrived today - hooray! It's great, beautifully finished.
Makes the sax much easier to play than the straight one. Just given it a quick blow,
and
intonation appears to be spot on. And it cleared customs with no problems,
so no import duty or VAT. Excellent.

It's a pleasure doing business with you. I wish you well with your business.

Regards

Jon F.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the new #6 Baritone Saxophone mouthpiece & Ligature - great
Christmas Gift from my wife (how'd she ever know?!).  It plays well.  I
tried it on two saxophones, my old La Monte Baritone Saxophone (an Orsi
Stencil) which is a beast to play ... and I tried it on a band loaner
topend Yamaha.  It played great on both.

Got the curved neck for the Conn - I love it.  I think it actually makes the horn sound better.
I don't know if that makes any sense.  Maybe it's just that the bell is closer to my ears, don't know, but
I swear it sounds better and plays the low notes better.

Gary

Hi Steve

I got the mouth piece a couple of days ago and it sounds just fine. (Classic hard rubber)

Thanks

Michael

Steve, the #7 metalpro is AWESOME on the Buescher C-melody!!!

I thank you for the fantastic mouthpiece.  There is an amazing difference between
an old original c-melody mouthpiece and the metalpro.  WOW.

Pat M.

Hi Steve, the equipment has arrived sooner than I expected.
The mouthpiece works nice and the reeds are also fine for me! Nice products you have.

Hope to buy more from you. Thanks very much,

Luis. Br

Got the shipment today. The mouthpiece and reeds arrived in excellent shape.
(Aquilasax C melody Metalpro # 5)
I could not try the setup on my conn... I am still waiting for the pads.

I was so interested in trying this out that I pulled out an old Bundy II alto that I have worked
on recently to sell on Ebay. This horn was my backup marching band horn 30 years ago.
It has definite pitch problems that I know all too well. Well, the # 5 Aquila setup works
fantastic. This horn sounds great with that mpc...believe it or not... very warm and sassy
and much improved intonation. Wow! It turned a mediocre student horn into a player. I was
definitely not expecting that. I'll mention that in my ad.
Joe G.

I'm only a newcomer to the saxophone but on trying the mouthpiece
for
The first time it gives a much cleaner and more even sound
over the range than the Runyon m/p that came with the sax.
As I have a Conn C Melody my next investment will be the curved neck.

Don V.

Today, instead of using the original Conn Eagle mouthpiece, I used a short shank
Tenor 'Soloist,' which had been converted from a D to E facing, with your #2 reed.
It played beautifully!! A great improvement!

Some time ago I bought a c-mel classic mouthpiece from you.
Now I
have got my Buescher True Tone from about 1917 done and
it suits
perfectly.
It is easy to tune the sax with the mouthpiece, and the tone
is nice. Also, for some reason the overtone excercises
have never been so easy :-)
K. Finland

I reckon that the 2.5 which you included(soprano reeds Flying Goose brand)
beats the Rico Royal in terms of response and tone colour.

Lewis P

Also impressed with your reeds...would the postage be uneconomic? ($4.50)
The Metalpro mouthpiece is a delight, I can play easily & with colour, throughout
the range of what I was led to believe was a difficult instrument...the soprano.
Love the silver plated reed cap & the knurled screw...details are everything.
More power to you.
I will heartily recommend both you and your excellent products.
